Prolonged Pretrial Detention in Haiti
At the National Penitentiary of Haiti, 3,025 detainees live in cells built for less than 500. More than 80% of all detainees in Haiti are being held in prolonged pretrial detention during which inmates can wait between four and six years for their court cases to be heard.
A detainee is seen behind the bars of a prison wall on which a mural depicts a scene of prison inmates and guards.
