Chinese Sculpture Exhibition Opens at UN Headquarters

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon speaks at the opening of ""Sculpting the Soul of a Nation"", an international touring exhibition of the art of Wu Weishan, which was launched today at UN Headquarters in New York. The exhibition consists of thirty-three pieces of art falling into three categories: sculptures of important cultural figures in the Chinese history including Confucius and Laozi, sculptures on the theme of mothers and children and sculptures from the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall. Standing behind are, from left: Wu Weishan, Sculptor and President of the Fine Arts Institute of the Chinese National Academy of Arts and Chinese Academy of Sculpture; Yoo Soon-taek, wife of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon; Li Baodong, Permanent Representative of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations and his wife, Lu Hailin; and Stephen A. Orlins, President of the National Committee on United States-China Relations.
