General Assembly Observes International Day Against Nuclear Tests

The General Assembly held an informal meeting and a high-level panel discussion on "The Role of the United Nations in Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation," in observance of the International Day against Nuclear Tests. Observed on 29 August starting in 2010, the Day was designated by the General Assembly, to enhance public awareness of the effects of nuclear weapon test explosions and the need for their cessation as one of the means of achieving a nuclear-weapon-free world.
