Field Coverage
Life after Chernobyl
Farmers in Jelno--a village some 300 km away from the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant -- have gone back to the land after remedial measures, under an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) project, have rendered their fields safe for cultivating. Jelno was affected by contamination from the nuclear power plant accident in 1986 due to weather conditions at the time. Social upheaval, however, has left farmers with only primitive tools of the trade and fields are located quite a distance outside the village.
