UNSG Panel on Referenda Visits Polling Centres in South Sudan

Benjamin Mkapa (left), former President of Tanzania and Chair of the UN Secretary-General's Panel on the Referenda in Sudan, speaks with a domestic election observer at a polling centre in North Bari, near Juba, capital of South Sudan, on the first day of voting in the South's referendum on independence. Mr. Mkapa and the rest of the Panel visited a number of polling centres in and around Juba to monitor and discuss voting processes.
