United Nations Disengagement Observer Force

United Nations Disengagement Observer Force

The year after the Arab-Israeli conflict in 1973, the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) was established to monitor the separation of Israeli and Syrian troops on the Golan Heights. Since then it has ensured that the "area of separation" is respected and that the restrictions are observed on forces and armaments in the "areas of limitation" on either side. Headquartered in Damascus, it is comprised of 1, 335 troops and observers from Austria, Canada, Finland and Poland.
