Dag Hammarskjöld Funeral Service in Sweden

A black-draped United Nations flag is held by a UN soldier near the coffin of the late UN Secretary-General, Dag Hammarskjöld. A funeral service attended by dignitaries from many lands was held this afternoon at the Cathedral in Uppsala, the ecclesiastical capital of Sweden and the place where Dag Hammarskjöld was raised.
The coffin, draped in flags of Sweden and the United Nations, lies at the foot of the altar banked with wreaths, flanked on one side by close relatives and on the other by members of Sweden's Royal Family (at extreme left is King Gustaft Adolf).
