Field Coverage
Forestry in Pakistan
The destruction of forests in Pakistan has contributed to a reduction in timber production, large-scale erosion of the watersheds and river situation. In an effort to reverse this situation the Government, assisted by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) with Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) as executing agency, is strengthening the research and training facilities at the National Forest College and Research Institute at Peshawar (West Pakistan) and at the Forest Research Laboratory in Cittagong (East Pakistan). In addition, techniques for the rational exploitation of existing resources are being studied.
