Mogiana Agricultural Diversification Scheme

Mogiana Agricultural Diversification Scheme

Diversification of agricultural production is regarded as a necessity for the economic development of Brazil. This would enable the government to reduce food imports, raise levels of nutrition, and reduce dependence of coffee production. Work on diversification possibilities in the Mogiana region was started under the auspices of the Mogiana Central Cooperative of Coffee Growers (CCCM), acting in agreement with the government of Brazil and with the assistance of the Brazilian Coffee Institute (IBC). The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) acting as executing agency is assisting this project by providing technical guidance to the Government of Brazil in the planning and implementation of the Mogiana diversification scheme. Farm planning and management assistance to the farmers of the region is also being provided.
