Secretary-General U Thant Visits Romania

8 May 1963

During his current visit to Europe, Secretary-General U Thant was the guest of the Romanian Government from 4 to 8 May. While in Romania, he conferred with Mr. Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej, President of the State Council of the Romanian People's Republic, and with Mr. Ion Gheorghe Maurer, Chairman of the Council of Ministers. The Secretary-General made a tour of Bucharest, visiting the Palace Hall, art galleries, a new town for workers and students' hostels at the University of Bucharest. He leaves Romania today to visit Yugoslavia.
