Brazil's Forestry School a Vital Spur to Industry

Brazil's Forestry School a Vital Spur to Industry

The National Forestry School at Curitiba, Parana, now completed, has established itself as a vital spur to the nation's timber industry. The school was built by the Brazilian Government with the assistance of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) as the executing agency. Lack of trained personnel in forestry has been a serious obstacle in the development and conservation of the country's forests. The school, located about 300 miles north of Brasilia, gives training in agriculture, veterinary medicine, home economics and related fields. It is the second of two such schools in Brazil.

Here is seen the harvesting of seeds from elite trees of Araucaria angustifolia for use in the forest research station at Rio Negro, Parana. [1969]
