Family Planning in Pakistan

Pakistan's current five-year family planning programme aims at reducing the country's birth rate from 43 to 33.2 per 1,000. To implement this goal, the Government has requested assistance from the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), in the form of fellowships, consultants, support for expanding health services, training at medical colleges to include family planning services, and in promoting relevant clinical and basic medical research at the National Research Institute for Fertility Control at Karachi. Serving as executing agencies in their respective fields are the World Health Organization (WHO); the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF); the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); and the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
