Official Logo for the 1982 World Assembly on Aging
A facsimile of the official logo for the World Assembly on Aging, 26 July -- 6 August, 1982. It depicts a stylized banyan tree within a circle and was designed by Oscar Berger, an 80-year-old artist from the United States. The banyan tree which symbolizes longevity, self-reliance, continuing growth and a community meeting place, spreads out hundreds of feet beyond its main trunk. In many communities its canopy provides shelter for market places, social gatherings and meetings of village elders.
