International Year of the Child (IYC) - 1979

To mark the 20th anniversary of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, the UN has proclaimed 1979 International Year of the Child (IYC). It has asked the world community to renew and reaffirm concern for the present and future of its children. By placing children at the centre of world attention, IYC hopes to refuel the search for a broader and deeper understanding of the magnitude of their needs.
Vulnerable and wayward, a fragile and precious resource, children the world over need special care and protection in order to grow into healthy, productive adults. In accordance with the UN Declaration of the Rights of the Children they have the right to affection, love and understanding.
