Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe)

In 1965 a minority, racist regime in Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) declared the British colony independent. The United Nations declared this action to be illegal and maintains that there should be no independence in the territory before majority rule has been affected. The UN Security Council has called on Member Governments to apply mandatory economic sanctions in an effort to topple the illegal regime – the first time in the history of the UN that such action has been called for. So far, this action has not achieved its goal.
Bishop Abel Muzorewa, Chairman of the African National Council, addressed a meeting in London's Trafalgar Square organized by the Rhodesia Emergency Campaign Committee. [No exact date]
