Technical Assistance to Haiti : (Woodworking)
Woodcraft is one of the most important export products of Haiti. It is, however, in danger of extinction because of the over-use of lumber. At the present rate of consumption, without adequate replanting, it is estimated that there is enough wood for only about fifty more years of this industry. At the request of the Haitian Government, a forestry expert of the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization is assisting in the reorganization of the Haitian Forest Service and in implementing a forest policy, which he helped to set up, designed to check soil erosion and assure domestic supplies of timber.
