The Economic and Social Council

The ninth session of the United Nations Economic and Social Council opened at the Palais des Nations, Geneva, on the 5th July, 1949. Proposals for expanding the work of the United Nations and the Specialised Agencies in the field of technical assistance for economic development in under-developed areas will be one of the most important economic items before this session, and on the social side attention will be chiefly devoted to a group of items dealing with various aspects of human rights and freedom of information.
