New Commander of Indian Contingent of UNEF Takes Over

Colonel R.K. Ranjit Singh, who took over the command of the Indian Contingent of the UN Emergency Force from Col. I.J. Rikhye, Acting Commander UNEF, on 7 January, recently inspected the various units of the Contingent.
This photograph was taken during a visit of Colonel Ranjit Singh to a Platoon Camp of "D" Company of the Indian Army's Fourth Kumaon Battalion near the A-D-L. From right to left are: Lt. Col. Teg Bahadur Kapur, Commanding Officer of Fourth Battalion of the Kumaon Regiment, which forms the major part of the Contingent; Major Gopal Singh, Company Commander; Battalion Subedar-Major Har Singh; a sentry; Col. Ranjit Singh; Capt. P.N. Kathpalia, Adjutant, Fourth Kumaon; and Captain D.V. Ghorpade, Indian Contingent. [January 1960]
