Technical Programmes in Afghanistan

To assist the Government of Afghanistan in carrying out its national development plans, the UN has maintained a Technical Assistance Mission in Kabul since 1949. Technical aid made available by the UN and its specialized agencies covers a wide range in scope and form. In some instances, it involves teaching in Afghan schools or in special training centres. In others, it takes the form of basic surveys of national resources, technical review of development projects, and strengthening of the Government's technical services. Fellowship awards enable Afghan nationals to go to other UN countries for supplementary education and vocational training.
The Government's weather survey programme is being aided by experts from the WMO (World Meteorological Organization). Here Mr. T. Sivall of Sweden gives a talk on weather forecasting to a group of Afghan students. [No exact date]
