End of Western Samoan UN Trusteeship Voted Unanimously

18 October 1961

The General Assembly this morning voted unanimously to terminate the United Nations trusteeship in Western Samoa when the territory accedes to independence on 1 January 1962.
At the conclusion of the voting, Miss Angie Brooks (Liberia), Chairman of the Assembly's Fourth (Trusteeship) Committee, congratulates Western Samoa's Prime Minilster, Fiame Mataafa Foumuina Mulilnu'u II.
