United Nations Amateur Radio Goes on Air
At the official opening of the new United Nations Amateur Radio Station K2UN, at Lake Success, Assistant Secretary-General for Public Information, Benjamin Cohen, broadcasts greetings to a radio amateur in Italy who was the first one to pick up the new station.
At right, George W. Bailey, President of the International Amateur Radio
Union, makes contacts with operators in Paris and Wiesbaden, Germany.
K2UN has two one-kilowatt transmitters operating on the 80 and 40 meter bands, as well as on 20 and 10. It will enable members of the
Secretariat Amateur Club to speak to radio amateurs in different parts of the world, and to supply U.N. information to members of the
International Amateur Radio Union, whenever requested.
