General Assembly's 23rd Special Session, Women "2000", Follows up on 1995 Beijing Conference, Looks Towards Future

Luul Gebreab, President of the National Union of Eritrean Women, addresses the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly. Meeting on the theme, "Women 2000: Gender Equality, Development and Peace for the Twenty-first Century", the session brings together some 10,000 delegates from governments and non-governmental organizations to review progress made on gender issues since the 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women. It is therefore also known as Beijing +5, after the site of the 1995 Conference.
