Mary Robinson, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), addresses a group of US civil and human rights activists who presented her with "A Call to Action", a petition appealing to the UN to look into racial discrimination in the administration of the death penalty, as well as racial profiling and the lack of police accountability in the United States. The event was in connection with the World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance, planned for 31 August to 7 September 2001 in Durban, South Africa, for which Mrs. Robinson will serve as Secretary-General.
