Farming for Development: Irrigation Project in Lebanon

Farming for Development: Irrigation Project in Lebanon

For some time to come the poorer countries of the world will have to rely on agriculture to raise their living standards and supply the capital they need to create industries. Agricultural production must therefore be increased. This requires tractors, fertilizers, new and better seeds, vast irrigation schemes, land reforms.
FAO expert, A. Marasovic (Yugoslavia) examining irrigation pipes with a Lebanese technician at the Terbol research station. Only small areas of Lebanon are flat enough for arable farming, and in these areas agriculture is well developed. In order to increase the agricultural production it has become necessary to have a modern irrigation scheme. With help from the Food and Agriculture Organization under the UN Development Programme the Government is carrying out several research projects. [c. 1967]
