Providing Maternal and Child Care in Sierra Leone
In order to reduce a relatively high infant mortality rate and to improve health facilities and nutritional levels for both mothers and their children, the Government of Sierra Leone has established a network of satellite health posts throughout the country's rural areas. At each post, immunization shots and general medical care are provided to several hundred children from birth to five years of age. The World Health Organization (WHO) is assisting this effort by contributing the services of health experts, medical supplies and equipment.
