Security Council Extends Mandate of United Nations Observer Mission in Liberia

The Security Council voted unanimously to adopt resolution 1071 (1996) which extends the mandate of the United Nations Observer Mission in Liberia (UNOMIL), stressing that continued international support was dependent on the Liberian factions demonstrating their commitment to peace and to achieving national reconciliation in accordance with the 17 August Abuja Agreement.
