Farming for Development: Irrigation Project in Haiti

For some time to come the poorer countries of the world will have to rely on agriculture to raise their living standards and supply the capital they need to create industries. Agricultural production must therefore be increased. This requires tractors, fertilizers, new and better seeds, vast irrigation schemes, and land reform.
An irrigation project being carried out in Gonaives. About 77% of Haiti's work force is engaged in agriculture. In an effort to improve the standard of living of the rural population, the UN Development Programme has assisted the Government of Haiti in carrying out several development projects. [No exact date]
