General Assembly Admits Georgia as 179th Member of UN

31 July 1992

The General Assembly today admitted Georgia, formerly of the Soviet Union, to United Nations membership. Georgia becomes the 179th Member State to join the United Nations.
Alexander Chikvaidze, First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Georgia (right), is congratulated by Aly Teymour, Assistant Secretary-General and Chief of Protocol, as Mr. Chikvaidze is led to his delegation's seat in the General Assembly.
