Eleventh Special Session of UN General Assembly Meets
The Eleventh Special Session of the General Assembly has been called to assess progress made in the establishment of the new international economic order and to promote international economic co-operation and the growth of developing countries. Tasks confronting the special session which opened 25 August are adoption of a new international development strategy for the 1980's and the launching of a new round of global economic negotiations.
Zimbabwe's delegation led by Prime Minister Robert Mugabe taking its General Assembly seats today for the first time. Newly admitted Zimbabwe is the United Nations' 153rd Member State.
