Security Council Sends Secretary-General on Peace Mission to Iran/Iraq

The Security Council today requested Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar to visit Iran and Iraq in an effort to implement Security Council resolution 598 (1987) of 20 July.
Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar announcing his readiness to go to Iran and Iraq at the request of the Security Council. The Secretary-General said that he would leave towards the end of next week.
