Asia Society Symposium Commemorating the Birth of U Thant

Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim inaugurated the Asia Society symposium held at United Nations Headquarters today to commemorate the sixty-eight anniversary of the birth of the late Secretary-General U Thant. Other speakers at the symposium were C.V. Narasimhan, Under-Secretary-General for Inter-Agency Affairs and Co-ordination; James Barrington, former Permanent Representative of Burma to the UN; Norman Cousins, Editor of the Saturday Review; Robert Muller, Deputy to Mr. Narasimhan; and Josef Silverstein of Rutgers University.
