Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the UN
Portrait of Eduardo Castillo Arriola, the new Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the United Nations, who presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim at United Nations Headquarters today. Most recently, from 1971 to 1978, he was Guatemala's Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS), where he held various posts, including President of the Permanent Council and Chairman of the following: Rules and Procedures Committee, Pension and Retirement Fund, Political and Juridical Affairs, Sub-Committee on Terrorism and Committee of Extradition. In 1945, Mr. Castillo headed his country's delegation to San Francisco for the signing of the peace treaty with Japan. He also led Guatemala's delegation to the session of the UN General Assembly from 1954 through 1957 and again from 1967 to 1969, and has attended many other international conference on behalf of his country.
