Ceremonies in San Francisco Mark Signing 25 Years Ago of United Nations Charter

United Nations delegates on 26 June took part in ceremonies in San Francisco marking the signing in that city 25 years ago of the United Nations Charter. Others taking part in the commemorative meetings included a number of former Presidents of the General Assembly, the Secretary-General U Thant, and other Secretary officials, and representatives of the specialized agencies. They were invited by the City of San Francisco. The original Charter signed at San Francisco on 26 June 1945 was placed on display during the commemorative meetings. A banquet was given by the Mayor of San Francisco and the San Francisco Citizens' Committee for the Twenty-fifth Anniversary of the United Nations.

To his right are Mrs. Alioto, wife of the Mayor of San Francisco; and Major General Padma Bahadur Khatri, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the UN. To the Secretary-General's left are Mr. Joseph L. Alioto, Mayor of San Francisco; and Princess Ashraf Pahlavi, of Iran, Chairperson of the 26th session of the Commission on Human Rights, and special guest of the San Francisco Citizens' Committee for the 25th Anniversary Commemorative Meeting of the UN.
