General Assembly Recognizes People's Republic of China as Sole Representative of China

The General Assembly voted to recognize the representatives of the People's Republic of China as the only legitimate representative of China to the United Nations, and "to expel forthwith the representatives of Chiang Kai-shek from the place which they unlawfully occupy at the United Nations and in all the organizations affiliated to it". The Assembly acted by adopting a draft resolution, sponsored by Albania and 22 other nations, by a vote of 76 in favour to 35 against, with 17 abstentions.
