Secretary-General Opens 23rd Annual Exhibit of United Nations Art Club

Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim today opened the 23rd Annual U.N. Art Club Exhibit for the benefit of UNICEF, the U.N. Children's Fund. The exhibit contains works of art by members of Delegations to the U.N. and by U.N. Staff Members. Proceeds from the sale of these are contributed to UNICEF. The Exhibit is being held in the lobby of the General Assembly building and will run through 18 May.

The young girl standing at left is 12-year-old Bettina Gutte, a seventh grade school girl from Bremen, Federal Republic of Germany, the first prize winner of UNICEF's International Children's Art Contest. Bettina's award-winning crayon drawing - which won first prize over roughly 100,000 entries from children in 27 countries around the world - is being exhibited at the art show. Standing at right are Miss Violet Bell, Secretary of the Art Club, Robert Perrot, Vice President, and James T. Hobbins, Treasure.
