Commission Discusses Work Programme for Equality of Women

The Commission on the Status of Women this morning concluded its consideration of the United Nations programme of work in promoting the equality of women. A proposal was made by the representative of Finland that the Commission have a shorter agenda, set up a resolutions committee and change its name to the Commission on Equality. Many delegations expressed support for a shorter agenda and establishment of a resolutions committee. Statements in the debate were made by the representatives of Finland, Indonesia, Egypt, United Kingdom, United States, Thailand, Colombia, Guinea and Japan. A representative of the U.N. Environment Programme (UNEP) also made a statement.
