Secretary-General Pays Official Visits to Five Asian Countries
At the invitation of the respective Governments, Secretary-General U Thant paid official visits to Ceylon, India, Nepal, Afghanistan and Pakistan during April, where he held talks with the leaders of these Governments on matters of mutual interest. While in New Delhi he received the Jawaharlal Nehru Prize for International Understanding which was awarded to him in September 1966. The Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) was conferred on the Secretary-General at a special convocation by the University of Delhi.
