Industrialization Programme in Singapore

With the assistance of the United Nations, the UN Development Programme (UNDP), and the International Labour Organization (ILO), and based on recommendations by a UN team of experts in 1961, Singapore has embarked on intensive industrialization to support its fast-expanding population. The main focus has been on the Jurong Industrial Estate, as part of a general development plan. The Jurong project is a 17,000 acre industrial estate on which there are now 70 factories, employing 10,000 workers.
Malaysia Associated Industry Ltd. at Jurong manufactures a wide variety of light engineering equipment.
