Field Coverage
Development of Primary Production in Singapore
With the assistance of the United Nations, the UN Development Programme (UNDP), and the International Labour Organization (ILO), Singapore has embarked on intensive industrialization to support its fast-expanding population. Although agriculture and fisheries form only a small part of Singapore's economic activity, special attention is being given to the development of poultry, pig and fish farming. The programmes are so successful that some products are now available to serve even a growing export trade to neighbouring countries. The UNDP and FAO are assisting Singapore to establish the Pig and Poultry Research and Training Institute at Sembawang, Singapore.
