Urban Renewal and Housing Development in Singapore

Singapore's land area is only 224 square miles and rapid economic growth creates problems in housing, transportation, and industrial planning. The population is expected to reach 4 millions by 1990. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) assists Singapore with urban development and the services of UN planners and urban renewal experts. The demolition of decaying buildings is under way, and modern housing units and community facilities are changing the traditional facade of the new Republic.
