Field Coverage
Urban Research and Planning in Venezuela
As in other parts of the world, rapid urbanization has created serious problems of congestion, social disorganization and unemployment in Venezuela -- particularly in the Caracas-Valencia region which is assuming the proportions of a conurbation. To alleviate these problems, the Government is investing heavily in housing, sanitation, water supplies, roads and other infrastructure facilities. The UN Development Programme (UNDP) with the UN itself as Executing Agency, is providing expert services and fellowships for a programme under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Public Works assisted by Cendes (Centre for Development Studies of Central University of Venezuela), to carry out practical studies for planning and to implement development projects in road construction, housing and building, sanitation works, public utilities, urban land use and other related tasks.
