Former Mayor of Uwajima City, Japan, Presents the Secretary-General with a Small Bronze Replica of the Japanese Peace Bell
Chijoji Nakagawa, former Mayor of Uwajima City, Japan, visited United Nations Headquarters today and presented Secretary-General U Thant with a personal gift of a small bronze replica of the Japanese peace bell which stands in front of United Nations Headquarters. The large bell had been cast from coins collected by Japanese school school in a plan originated and organized by Mr. Nakagawa.
Here, Secretary-General U Thant is seen accepting the gift from Mr. Chijoiji Nakagawa. In accepting the gift the Secretary-General said he would strike the small bell at home every morning.
