India's Search for Minerals in Tamil Nadu State
In order to reduce the outflow of India's much needed foreign exchange he Government with help from UN Development Programme (UNDP) has undertaken an extensive search for minerals over much of the country. One large-scale project covering an area of approximately 13, 000 square kilometres is in Tamil Nadu State (formerly Madras State). Economically significant deposits of various minerals and specifically of iron ore have been shown to exist there.
