Assembly 'Strongly Deplores' Israeli Measures in Occupied Arab Territories

The General Assembly declared, by a vote of 131 in favour to 1 against, with 7 abstentions, that it ""strongly deplores"" the establishment of settlements in the Arab territories occupied by Israel. Israel voted against the resolution, while Costa Rica, Fiji, Guatemala, Malawi, Nicaragua, Papua New Guinea and the United States abstained. The Assembly acted following a week-long debate by adopting a 74-nation resolution (31/5) that had been introduced by Egypt on 29 September.
