Irish Contingent of UNFICYP becomes Operational

The Irish contingent of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) became operational on 22 April, and took over responsibility for the entire Famagusta area in the eastern part of the island. The Irish contingent, consisting of the 40th Irish Battalion, has thus been deployed at Two-Mile Point, Boghas, Komi Kebir, Peristerona and Catos.

An armoured car is seen leaving the Irish camp to patrol the Famagusta area.
