UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP)

UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP)

The United Nations Peacekeeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) was established by action of the UN Security Council to help prevent a recurrence of hostilities in the Republic of Cyprus. The Force will be stationed in various sectors of the country and, under the terms of the Security Council resolution, will remain in the island for a period of three months. To date the force is composed of contingents from Canada, Demark, Finland, Ireland, Sweden and the United Kingdom, and civilian police from Austria and Sweden.

Finnish soldiers serving with UNFICYP patrol the area around Dhekelia on bicycles. The troops brought some bicycles from Finland to be used for patrol duty.
