UNCURK Members Tour Four Korean Provinces
Members of the UN Commission for the Unification and Rehabilitation of Korea (UNCURK) left Pusan on 10 April for a 7-day tour to observe general conditions in four Republic of Korea provinces (Kyongsang, North and South Chung Chong, and Kangwon). In these provinces, the first autonomous local election for lower administrative units will be held soon, in accordance with the ""Local Autonomy Law of 1949."" While in Wonju, the members of the Commission met Korean officials.
This picture was taken as they were shown samples the types of roots that were eaten by the refugees when they first arrived in Wonju. Now, thanks to the UN Civil Assistance Command (UNCACK) and the UN Korean Reconstruction Agency (UNKRA), the refugees get a sufficient ration of rice.
