Irrigation Projects of the UN Korean Reconstruction Agency
Perforated concrete pipes are sunk deeply into the Han River to serve as pumping basins for one of the many irrigation projects being undertaken in Korea by the United Nations Korean Reconstruction Agency (UNKRA). Water is pumped from the basins into a collecting point, and from there is distributed through irrigation canals to the thirsty fields. UNKRA has allocated $4,400,000 in its 1954 budget for the importation of concrete, iron, pumps, dynamite and other items necessary to repairing and expanding Korea's vast irrigation system.
