Logs for Korea
The present backlog of houses in the Republic of Korea required to replace those destroyed during the fighting, to care for refugees from North Korea, and to meet the normal increase in population, now approximates 1,000,000 units. The United Nations Korean Reconstruction Agency (UNKRA), in conjunction with the ROK Ministry of Social Affairs, has initiated a project designed to develop a sound and practical long-range national housing program. In the Pusan area, where disastrous fires have left some 40,000 people homeless, the project is designed to provide construction materials for approximately 2,000 homes and the services of a construction engineer for a period of one year.
