Field Coverage
Rehabilitation of Korea's Cotton Textile Industry
One of the project of the UN Korean Reconstruction Agency (UNKRA), for which $2,810,000 was allocated, was designed to rehabilitate a portion of the Korean cotton textile industry. 55,400 spindles and other cotton textile machinery were procured and supplied to the end-user plants located in Kwangju, Taejon and Anyang (Kyonggi-Do), as agreed with the Government of the Republic of Korea. All equipment has now been received and released, with installation completed at Kwangju and Anyang, and under way at Taejon. The rehabilitation of these plants is expected to increase production of cloth by 39,000,000 yards annually, an amount equivalent to slightly less than two yards by capita.
Here, Korean workers, trained by UNKRA experts in the handling of the modern equipment imported by the Agency, tend their looms at the Keumsung Spinning Company plant at Anyang.
